Jaguar began as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922 in Blackpool, England.  In 1935 the name was changed to SS Jaguar, and to just Jaguar after World War II.  Jaguar set up its own distribution in New York in 1953, and became one of the first British auto componies to export to North America.  In 1989 Jaguar was purchased by Ford Motor Company along with Aston Martin, Land Rover, and Volvo which was known as Ford's Premier Automotive Group.  In 2008 Jaguar along with Land Rover was sold to Tata motors.
